El rapero y actor neoyorquino Chino XL ha fallecido a los 50 años de edad, según ha anunciado su familia en un comunicado publicado en su cuenta de Instagram.
“La familia de Derek Keith Barbosa, conocido profesionalmente como Chino XL, está devastada al transmitir la noticia de su fallecimiento. Chino murió en la mañana del domingo 28 de julio de 2024 en casa. Tenía 50 años”, anunciaron sus allegados en la red social en un mensaje que acompañaron con una foto del fallecido.
Chino XL tenía cuatro hijos: Chynna, Bella, Lyric, Kiyana; un hijastro, Shawn; y cinco nietos Emmy, Emery, Chris, Luis y Dyani, que firman el mensaje junto a su madre, Carole; y su excompañera Stephanie.
En una declaración conjunta, sus hijas reflexionan sobre la personalidad del cantante: “nuestro padre tenía muchos títulos -Rey de los chistes, superhéroe puertorriqueño- pero el más importante fue padre”.

New York rapper and actor Chino XL has died at the age of 50, his family announced in a statement posted on his Instagram account.
“The family of Derek Keith Barbosa, professionally known as Chino XL, is devastated to announce his passing. Chino died on the morning of Sunday, July 28, 2024 at home. He was 50 years old,” his loved ones announced on the social network in a message accompanied by a photo of the deceased.
Chino XL had four children: Chynna, Bella, Lyric, Kiyana; a stepchild, Shawn; and five grandchildren Emmy, Emery, Chris, Luis and Dyani, who sign the message along with his mother, Carole; and his former partner Stephanie.
In a joint statement, his daughters reflect on the singer’s personality: “our father had many titles – King of jokes, Puerto Rican superhero – but the most important was father.”
“And what he gave us most in that role was his strength, simplicity and ability to be super realistic. The main thing we feel now is that our dad is at peace, and so are we,” added his daughters, who do not give details about the reasons for his death.
