Dos debutantes del boxeo profesional brillan en el área de Fresno en la cartelera preliminar de la pelea por el título en Las Vegas

Jordan Fuentes nunca fue seleccionado para representar al equipo de Estados Unidos en los Juegos Olímpicos de París.

Eso está bien para el nativo de Fresno.

Un debut en el boxeo profesional estaría bien.

En su debut el sábado, Fuentes derrotó a James Mulder de Antioch por decisión unánime en una pelea súper pluma de cuatro asaltos en la cartelera preliminar de la pelea por el título mundial Serhii Bohachuk/Vergil Ortiz Jr. en Las Vegas.

The judges favored Fuentes 40-36 and two others scored it 39-37.

Fuentes tuvo una condecorada carrera amateur en la que ganó siete títulos nacionales y es cuatro veces campeón estatal.

Fuentes llegó a las pruebas olímpicas en Lafayette, Luisiana, en diciembre de 2023 y participó como comodín y como la más joven del torneo.

Derrotó a tres cabezas de serie superiores, pero nunca fue seleccionado para representar al equipo de EE. UU.

Fuentes firmó con Golden Boy Promotions el 1 de agosto.

Mientras tanto, Jennah Creason tenía previsto debutar como profesional en la cartelera preliminar de la pelea contra José Ramírez en el Save Mart Center en abril.

Eso nunca sucedió para la graduada de Redwood High.

Jordan Fuentes was never selected to represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

That’s OK for the Fresno native.

A professional boxing debut will do just fine.

In his debut Saturday, Fuentes defeated James Mulder of Antioch by unanimous decision in a four-round super feather fight in the undercard of the Serhii Bohachuk/Vergil Ortiz Jr. world title fight in Las Vegas.

The judges favored Fuentes 40-36 and two others scored it 39-37.

Fuentes had a decorated amateur career where he won seven national titles and is a four-time state champion.

Fuentes made it to the Olympic Trials in Lafayette, La. in Dec. 2023 and entered as a wild card and the youngest in the tournament.

He defeated three higher seeds but was never selected to represent Team USA.

Fuentes signed with Golden Boy Promotions on Aug. 1.

Jennah Creason, meanwhile, was supposed to make her pro debut on the undercard of the Jose Ramirez fight at the Save Mart Center in April.

That never happened for the Redwood High grad.

She finally made her debut Saturday when she went the distance and defeated Kelsey Wickstrum in a four-round welterweight fight.

Creason put on a power display when she connected on a punch that left a cut to Wickstrum’s eye in the first round.

Creason won by split decision (37-39, 39-37, and 40-36).
