Rusia ha celebrado su primera boda real en más de un siglo, 104 años después del asesinato del último zar y su familia.

El viernes, el gran duque George Mikhailovich Romanov, de 40 años, se casó con su prometida italiana Rebecca Bettarini, de 39 años, frente a cientos de invitados en la catedral de San Isaac en San Petersburgo.

¿Quién es el gran duque George Mikhailovich Romanov?

El Gran Duque es el único hijo de la Gran Duquesa Maria Vladimirovna Romanova, de 67 años, y el Príncipe Franz Wilhelm de Prusia. También es el tercer bisnieto del emperador Alejandro II de Rusia.

Nacido en Madrid, se educó en la Universidad de Oxford y vivió durante muchos años en España y Francia, aunque ahora reside en Moscú.

El bisabuelo del gran duque, el gran duque Kirill Vladimirovich, fue uno de los miembros de la familia Romanov que escapó de la Revolución Rusa que llevó al zar Nicolás II, su esposa y sus cinco hijos a morir asesinados en 1917.

Bettarini conoció al Gran Duque en Bruselas cuando trabajaba en el parlamento. Se mudaron a Rusia hace tres años.
